There's Still An Appeal To Try-Before-You-Buy
-
Radio Shack's bankrupt. HHGregg's gone. Most electronic retailers have passed on, no match for Amazon and other online sellers. So, how the hell has Best Buy survived? This article notes that price-matching, a strong online presence with sped-up delivery times, branded stores-within-stores like Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, and Verizon, and offering better help for purchasers who need advice have made a difference. I also note -- not mentioned in the article, of course -- that I haven't seen their weekly ad circular in the Sunday paper for ages, but I get email ads from them all the time. That's gotta save some money. Anyway, there aren't too many bright spots in retailing, but this is one of them, apparently. (Los Angeles Times)
