Dead: Frances Gabe, at 101; she passed away months ago but the news has just now trickled out. Who? She was the inventor of something nobody else has ever achieved: the self-cleaning house. No, really, she did it. Only one was built, and she lived in it; she patented the process but never licensed it. How did it work? Sprinklers and soap... basically, a house-sized dishwasher. You'd think someone would take the idea and develop it into something practical, because who wouldn't want to push a button and have a clean house? (New York Times)
