Let's See You Draw A Cartoon About THAT
-
Add to the list of things that are pretty much going away: newspaper editorial cartoonists. Every paper worth a damn (other than the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, the sole holdouts) had a local cartoonist, and while most were pretty hack, some were the newspaper equivalent of superstars. Now, even a Pulitzer won't save your job -- Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle got fired just recently, and he won the prize -- and it's because there's no way to monetize an editorial cartoon anymore. Social media made cartoons easy to share, but it doesn't convert to money. Nobody said that you're guaranteed a living by drawing cartoons, but this was a significant job that's vanishing.
