Yet 'The Emoji Movie' Was A Hit, So....
-
It's been a very bad summer for Hollywood, the lowest-attended in 25 years. Some of you might be tempted to blame Hollywood's liberalism -- I've seen that on Facebook -- but it's more likely that it's about the quality of the movies and the unending stream of sequels and reboots that people just weren't into. Yet while smaller movies ("Baby Driver," "The Big Sick," "Girls Trip") did well, those aren't the ones that really make the big money for the studios. They NEED those big blockbuster movies, and, with the rare exception of "Dunkirk," the only reliable way to get those is to do superhero movies and reboots and sequels, so expect the cycle to continue. And if you expect them to make superhero movies as good as "Wonder Woman" on a consistent basis, yeah, good luck with that. They're not that capable. (Los Angeles Times)
