'No Carry-On' Means 'No Carry-On.' Not Hard To Interpret
-
Do you know what you're getting when you buy your airplane tickets? Some people buy basic economy on United or American and are shocked when they find out that they can't bring a bag to stow in the overhead bin and have to pay $50 to gate-check it -- the usual $25 fee plus a $25 penalty. Annoying? Yes, but I think it's pretty clear that the "basic economy" fare is what it is, and that you're going to have to pay to check bags, and if there's an additional penalty, well, next time you'll buy a regular economy ticket that includes the carry-on. Sure, the penalty is sort of arbitrary, but if you book yourself a "basic economy" ticket and then show up with a carry-on, that's kinda on you. (Time)
