It's called "karoshi," a Japanese term for working yourself to death, and it's back in the news after a young journalist died of congestive heart failure in the wake of working 159 hours of overtime in a month, including Saturdays and Sundays, frantically covering local elections. This has been a problem in Japan for years, but it's an issue everywhere, when you're afraid to take ANY time off because of the precariousness of having employment. Do you take time off or are you an overworker? And if you're the latter, how concerned are you that you're overdoing it? (New York Times)
