Making 'Write What You Know' Just A Little More Disturbing
-
While there are more shows with women in the lead roles, TV seems to have a tendency to kill off its "wife" characters at an alarming rate. We've already talked about the weird way "Kevin Can Wait" dispatched Kevin's wife, but "Ray Donovan" and "Blue Bloods" did the same thing and there's a long tradition of widower-based sitcoms (from "My Three Sons" to "Full House" and many in between). Coincidence? Better for drama? Or some weird way Hollywood decided to save the "trouble" of writing strong female characters? (Washington Post)
