Real Life Is Frightening Enough
-
The L.A. Times did a section on horror movies in the Sunday paper this week, and critic Kenneth Turan wrote an interesting take on the genre: He can't watch horror movies anymore. At some point, he realized that he didn't WANT to be scared. He didn't WANT to be affected by seeing gruesome scenes. And that does raise an issue: How DO horror movies affect you? I know people who love to be frightened and thrilled by horror movies, but I've always been a little queasy about them, even when I was writing about them. Ask horror fans why they're into it.
