The passenger and American Airlines differ on what happened. The passenger, a curler, said that the customer service agent at the Phoenix airport insisted that curling is not a "real" sport for purposes of discounted checked sports equipment, and wanted to charge her way more than the usual $25 they'd charge for "real" sports equipment like golf bags. The airline says she's wrong, that the CSR noted that the size of the curling stuff was too big and offered her the sports discount for oversized bags ($150). Either way, it's an opportunity for you to make curling jokes or to come to the defense of the sport. (It IS a real sport, of course. A very odd sport, but a sport nonetheless.) (Washington Post)
