They DO Have Phone Stores And Cheap Replacements Over There, You Know
-
This writer went to Italy and, on the way, his smartphone died. As a result, he ended up on a ten day trip with no smartphone, and his experience, he suggests, was mixed, but I think it sounds like it was pretty rough. How so? It's not about being apart from your email or social media. It's that phones are where you find maps, travel information, boarding passes, Uber and Lyft, pretty much everything that you need for travel, period. I also went to Italy for 10 days a couple of years ago, and having a functioning iPhone was essential for directions, restaurant information, translations, and much more. Could you get along for a 10 day trip in a foreign country without a smartphone? Because I admit I couldn't. (New York Times)
