I'd Still Rather Watch At Home
-
Stadiums and arenas are so 20th century. Newer generations of fans, the experts say, don't want to just sit there and watch a ballgame. No, they want to be more active, so newer arenas are trying things like bigger video screens, apps, video game suites, nightclubs, and whatever else they can throw in there to distract from the static experience of sitting in a seat that doesn't move and watching a sports event or concert. Unless, that is, it's esports, which involves watching someone else play a video game, and that's hot, although why do people go see that when they can just watch at home on Twitch? The communal experience, which is the whole point of an arena, or theater, for that matter. Maybe they should stress THAT. (New York Times)
