Dead: LAist, Gothamist, and DNAInfo, and all the other related local news and gossip sites that were in several cities, owned by Joe Ricketts of the Chicago Cubs Ricketts family. They spent a lot over eight years and couldn't make it work. They had a big audience and couldn't make enough money to support it. Maybe they could have done the "pivot to video," but nobody's getting rich from that, either. Let's ask it again: Can journalism survive as a career in the digital age? (KABC-TV/Los Angeles)
