Possibly coming even sooner than driverless cars: driverless trucks, and you can see why: This will save trucking companies money and eliminate the problem of those long, long, long hauls across the middle of the country. There's the safety issue, of course -- one accident and you'll see everyone rise up demanding something be done -- but there's also the elimination of a LOT of jobs. One solution to that appears to be having drivers become like ground crews for airports: At the terminus, a "driver" would use something like a video game controller to guide the truck into the dock. Something tells me that might not be enough work and there might be a training curve. (New York Times)
