The Companies You Keep
-
If you're the people who make and market Doc Martens boots, you HAVE to know that your product has been for decades a popular sartorial choice among skinheads and neo-Nazis. You HAVE to know. So when you're marketing the shoes with billboards showing the product with red laces, claiming that it was an innocent mistake is kind of hard to believe, considering that red laces on workboots have been identified with white supremacism for a long time (it symbolizes "giving your blood for the movement"). The company, for its part, has distanced itself from the "movement." Do you buy it? For that matter, do you trust ANY of the companies, like Papa John's, Yuengling, and others who have been embraced by neo-Nazis and claim they don't really support those people?
