Be Thankful They Didn't Advertise Liver
-
Someone did some deep research into Thanksgiving advertising over the years, showing how the ads shaped what we know as Thanksgiving dinner today. Turkey, cranberry, and pumpkin were pushed hard in the 1920s and 1930s, which helped make them staples for the holiday even though they weren't necessarily part of the holiday before that. Some ad campaigns didn't work -- grape juice, walnuts -- but what we eat for Thanksgiving today were marketed as such. Do you feel played or grateful that the ads led to the "traditional" turkey dinner? (US News and World Report)
