Mary Adelman passed away at 89. Who? Typewriter repair shop owner to the stars. Her New York shop fixed the typewriters of authors on the level of David Mamet, Philip Roth, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Nora Ephron, Joseph Heller, and others. And, yes, people still use typewriters. If you can't imagine why, you probably aren't a professional writer; Sometimes, the tool is an important part of the creative process. Who knows why the brain does that? But it does, and once the sound and feel and smell of a Smith-Corona is associated with your work flow, no computer will do. (New York Times)
