Let's Do 'Over The River And Through The Woods' Next

Medford, MA says it was written there. Savannah claims that it was written THERE. And a historian says she thinks it was written in Boston, but that's less important than that it was a minstrel song and performed in blackface, so there's a racist element. All of this is part of the foggy history of "Jingle Bells." While the cities battle over who gets to be the "home of 'Jingle Bells,'" the question is whether they should WANT to be the "home of 'Jingle Bells.'" By the way, it has nothing to do with Christmas, lyrics-wise. Or did you not notice that? (Boston Globe)
