AWF. Always Wear Flip-Flops
-
A Canadian couple went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and walked barefoot on the beach, which is apparently a very bad idea, because they ended up with hookworms in the feet, and the pictures are pretty gross. This is both a topic about travel mishaps and about the Canadian health system, because when their doctor put in the order for the medication to treat the hookworms, Health Canada rejected the request, because the drug isn't formally approved, and one of their mothers had to go to Detroit and pay retail for the drug (fortunately, it cost them C$88, and it could have been far worse). The last thing you want to hear is that the bizarre, disfiguring, disgusting condition you have can't be treated because your insurance plan doesn't cover it. (CTV News)
