Rent A Car. Oh, Wait, The Valet Attendant Will Rip You Off. Never Mind

A tourist couple got into a cab in the official queue at Miami International Airport and only after getting home did they discover they were charged $777.44 for a short ride (lengthened when the cab driver got "lost") to their hotel. And when they complained, it turned out that the cab was not with any licensed taxi service, illegally used Square to do the charge, and was driven by a woman who fled to Haiti sometime after that. And there's nothing they can do about it. Which is to say, when you grab a cab or call an Uber or Lyft, make sure you check it all out first. Watch the meter, know what it should cost, get a receipt or check the Uber/Lyft app and watch for "surge pricing." There are vultures out there. (Miami Herald)
