Can you watch Woody Allen's "Manhattan" the same way you used to, knowing his reputation now versus then? See, that movie creeped me out back then, too. Yeah, the opening with "Rhapsody in Blue" is a transcendent movie moment, but the plot -- older guy, teen girl -- was disturbing back then. When all the controversy with Soon-Yi and Mia and all that hit the headlines, it was a lot less surprising than it should have been, in light of "Manhattan" and many of his subsequent movies. So, I'm not sure whether you can say the movie seems different now or whether you should have been on guard back then. (New York Times)
