To Thine Own Self Be True

What happens when you're a child prodigy and you realize you're miserable at it? This guy was a violin prodigy, an amazing player, playing Carnegie Hall twice before he was 13, but his demanding violin teacher and his annoyance with the whole thing led him to change his name and try to disappear. But this is not a story of failure. No, the guy went on to do other things, from running a rundown Times Square hotel to becoming a very successful actuary making enough money to indulge his hobby of building and sailing boats. And he's still pretty angry and bitter about how being a violin prodigy robbed him of the joys of childhood. Ultimately, he managed to live life on his own terms, and that's a bigger deal than being the best at something you don't want to do. (New York Times)
