Or They Can Use A Trebuchet And Fling Fans Across The 110 Freeway
-
First thing you need to know is that Dodger Stadium is notoriously impossible to get to and from, for several reasons: There's limited or no public transportation, the parking lots have limited freeway access, the place is right next to downtown and all the freeways are subject to normally slow rush hour traffic even when there's no game, and the flow of traffic in the parking lot is... well, there IS no flow. So they've tried to come up with solutions forever. Now, the Dodgers say they'll pay, out of their own pocket, over $100 million to build a gondola, a sky tram from the stadium to Union Station downtown. A gondola to speed you OVER traffic and connect to the Metro subway? Sounds great. Except a tram can't carry more than a few thousand people an hour. Dodger games routinely draw 35-50,000. So this is probably pointless. The BEST solution is one they already have: frequent free buses from remote locations using dedicated bus lanes into and out of the stadium. I use the South Bay one and it's the only way to go; no hassle at all. If they had that to more locations, they wouldn't even be thinking about a gondola. (KABC-TV/Los Angeles)
