It's Better To Look Good Than To BE Good

It cost Darden Restaurants $2.85 million to settle a federal lawsuit that alleged the company's Seasons 52 chain wouldn't hire "old white guys" in an attempt to hire only "hip" young servers. The suit cited many comments from job interviewers for the company that said they wouldn't hire people over 40 and asked for dates of birth or drivers' licenses to check age. The company called these incidents "isolated," but the truth is that the only reason they got caught and others weren't is that their people admitted it. Age discrimination is real, but if a company doesn't say WHY they didn't hire someone, how can you do anything about them? (Orlando Sentinel)
