There's An Easy Fix And It Doesn't Cost Much. So, Naturally, They Don't Want To Do It

Keyless cars are very convenient. I'm so used to them that I get thrown when I rent a car with a regular key. Yet there's a great danger inherent in keyless car systems, namely that it makes it way too easy to leave the car running after you close your garage door. Sometimes, it's hard to tell if the car is off, and you can walk away with the fob, close the door, go into your house, and the carbon monoxide can killl you. It's worse with older drivers. You'd think that they'd institute a system where the car shuts off if you walk away with the fob, or that beeps when you stop the car and get out without shutting it off. This might be because the feds haven't mandated anything and the car companies have cheaped out. While they dither, the stories about people who died from this are heartbreaking. (The New York Times)
