They're Not Making Him Pay Restitution For The Valor He Stole
-
The former Mayor of Lakeland, Minnesota lied about his military service -- he claimed to have been a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army on a "secret mission" during the Cold War, and forged discharge papers -- and got over $137,000 in veteran's benefits. He got caught. Sentence: probation. That's it. And the judge admonished prosecutors who wanted a prison sentence, saying that they don't "have a heart" because the Mayor has health issues. Needless to say, VFW members there are livid. This guy ripped off the VA and lied about his service and he's getting away with it -- other than restitution, and good luck with that -- because the judge feels sorry for him. That doesn't seem right. (KSTP-TV/St. Paul-Minneapolis)
