At Least Give It A Month Or So

The age-old question "Too Soon?" can be asked again in the case of a University of Oregon student who died on a visit to Lake Shasta and the college's response in issuing a statement criticizing student drinking on trips to that area, a tradition that the school called "life choices.... contrary to the values of the university and fraternity and sorority organizations." The deceased's mother is angry that the school "added insult to injury." The school apologized, but when is it appropriate for someone to say that a death was avoidable and the result of a poor personal choice? Is there ever a time? How long should you wait?
