Not Sure That Was Art, But It WAS An Excellent Publicity Campaign
-
An art exhibit in Washington's city hall will pay tribute to the late Cool "Disco" Dan, whose name became a ubiquitous presence in D.C. due to being scrawled as graffiti all over town in the '80s. Now, I do believe that some graffiti is art, even if it's unfortunate that it appears on other people's property. Some of it is intricate, colorful, and indicative of real creativity. And then there's Dan, who basically just spray-painted his nickname in plain letters on buildings. That's it. Nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just the name, which then raises the age-old question: is that art? (Washington Post)
