In the ocean, plastic seems to be forever. In museums, on the other hand, curators and preservationists are finding that art and historical items are disintegrating and deteriorating. It's basically the opposite of what you'd expect: Everything from 1960s pop art to Neil Armstrong's space suit and all sorts of tech objects are yellowing and falling apart while metal and ceramic and other materials have survived for centuries. Didn't see this coming, but it's become an issue. (New York Times)
