Thanks For Your Loyalty. Now, Get Out

Radio people know this, but not everyone out there does: If your employer gets sold, and they tell you that it'll be business as usual and no jobs will be lost, do not believe them. And if they, as Unilever did when it bought the Schmidt's Natural Deodorant company in Portland, say nothing about future plans other than that the bosses will remain aboard, whatever you do, get your resumé fixed up, your LinkedIn page updated, and your job search underway, because you're toast. In the case of Unilever and Schmidt's, it was nine months of silence and then the announcement that everyone would be losing their jobs as of October 31st, with one week of severance pay. The Portland plant, employing 57 people, was not, it turns out, part of the sale, so the ax is falling. But you're in radio, so you've seen this before. (The Oregonian/OregonLive.com)
