Do It Because You Want To Be Green. Don't Do It As An Investment

Solar power seems like a good idea until it isn't. Take this couple near Phoenix who bought a home, then fell victim to a door-to-door solar panel salesman who sold them $34,048 in solar panels under a loan, with the pitch that it would raise the home's value. Now, they want to sell their house, but they have to sell it for $34,000 more than it's worth so they can pay off the solar loan. And that's tough, but they probably should have known the salesman was selling them a bill of goods. Solar doesn't raise your home's value and unless you plan to live there for decades, you're going to come out behind. Shouldn't people know that by now? It's not a secret that the solar industry has a lot of issues. (KTVK/Phoenix)
