Venice, Italy's Mayor is proposing a $580 fine for sitting in an area not designated for sitting, a law aimed at tourists who don't behave. That's something sweeping Italy: Florence banned eating on the street, another tourist thing. It's because tourists can't behave themselves as the locals want them to. But my experience in those cities is that it's not like cops are ever present and looking to arrest tourists; the laws themselves are intended as deterrents and reminders not to do certain things. And you SHOULD behave yourself. (CNN)
