Maybe Motel 6 Isn't So Bad, All Things Considered
-
As Airbnb disaster stories go, this one's spectacular: A couple from Boston rented a house by the beach out here in L.A. through Airbnb, assuming that because the landlord was ranked as a "super host," it would all be fine. Nope. First, he pounded on the door at 5:30 am, ranting, then blew it off the next day, saying "life's too short" for him to explain. Then, the next night, at 2 am, he crashed through a window and had to be subdued, then chased, with a 911 call and cops and helicopters involved. Which I suppose IS the ultimate L.A. experience, but it sent the couple to a nearby Hilton, and when they wanted $5,000 for compensation (the hotel alone cost $2,300), Airbnb offered half that, plus some free therapy sessions. Not kidding. That's pathetic. And that's one reason I won't use them. (Boston Globe)
