There's A High School Field In Costa Mesa That Might Be Available

The key part of the article about the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim opting out of their lease for what is presently Angel Stadium is this: "(T)he Angels understand they are unlikely to find a city in Southern California willing to pay for a new ballpark. 'We understand the realities of California,' (spokesperson Marie Garvey) said." The realities of California are that nobody wants to pay even more taxes to give a rich guy like Arte Moreno an even partially free place of business. He'd be insane to move them out of Orange County, where they draw well and are a little less under the Dodgers' shadow, but a) we know he knows the value of the team is higher with the L.A. label, and b) if someone in, say, Montreal or Charlotte or Portland threw money at him, he'd listen. Would we in Southern California miss 'em? Yeah, a little. Does that mean we want to pay for 'em? Nah. (Los Angeles Times)
