We Don't All Have Helicopters Ready To Go In The Backyard, You Know
-
One of the takeaways from the fires is that wherever you are, you should plan your escape routes in advance, just in case of disaster. One of the biggest problems with the Camp Fire and the Woolsey Fire has been that in each case, there were very few options for fleeing residents. In Paradise, a lot of people discovered the only roads leading out of their town blocked; in Malibu, with the fires jumping the 101 freeway, the only way out was to go south on Pacific Coast Highway, which is slow and crowded on a GOOD day. Oh, and another thing: Do not wait. When they say evacuate, you need to go right away. You don't have time, and you don't want to be unable to get onto the only escape route too late.
