For every good thing, there's someone wanting to screw it up. And so here's a Montreal class in making non-traditional latkes, like carrot-harissa or celery-root versions. The argument is that the oil is what makes it all Chanukah, and a rye-sourdough latke is as good as a potato latke. Which it is not. Potato or nothing. (Montreal Gazette)
