You know this is happening, but the actual financial reports make it stark: Some airlines are making nearly half their revenue on added fees, from baggage to more room to drinks and stuff. The possibility exists that you might someday pay nothing or next to nothing on fares and everything on fees, but I doubt that, because you have no other options but to pay a fare and because the airlines are already able to charge you a fare AND the fees. Unless Congress steps in, the trend is that you'll pay more and more for what used to be included, and the total will be more than you would pay if there was real competition.
