Hard To Teach People Empathy
-
Every high school and college class unfortunately experiences the tragedy of classmates dying along the way before graduation. How to honor them is something you can debate; usually, it's an "in memoriam" page in the class yearbook. But in Pascagoula, MS, they did things a little differently. The school made senior class T-shirts, and the kids wanted "Bye, Felicia" on the front, and the school administrators approved that. What wasn't approved was the kids then putting the names of three deceased classmates on the back. Even the administrators know that saying "Bye, Felicia" to anyone is an insult, and saying it on a shirt with the names of three dead classmates is, um, dismissive at best. Classless, definitely. Who thought this was going to be a good idea? And who'd want to wear that? (Biloxi Sun-Herald)
