Swill, Maybe, But OUR Swill

A small but determined number of people in Italy want Italians to know that their coffee sucks. See, in Italy, there are a million places to grab a very cheap (one euro) cup of espresso, and it's a tradition. But coffee experts (I'll let YOU call them snobs) point out that Italian coffee uses the cheapest, worst beans. They want people to try GOOD coffee, at a little higher price. Good for them, but it's doomed, because... well, it's like how there ARE better burgers than In-And-Out or McDonald's and better hoagies than Wawa and better chocolate than Hershey's Kisses but people want what they want, and sometimes they want a familiar flavor and convenience that's local and familiar. Plus, if it's all you've ever consumed, a bad cup of coffee isn't bad to you. (Washington Post)
