Some smaller colleges in more rural areas are deciding that in order to compete, they have to eliminate liberal arts studies in favor of vocational degrees, emphasizing career-focused studies. That's fine if you look at college as purely a path to a specific job. It's terrible if you see college as a place to grow your mind and develop socialization. And it's a shame because those smaller colleges in rural areas are often one of the only paths local kids have of getting anywhere in life other than staying home and working in the local industry.
