Get It In Writing And Get It Right Away

The guy took Air Canada's offer of an $800 voucher to give up his seat on an overbooked flight. But when he received the reward, the airline reneged and only offered him 15% off a future flight. And because it was a verbal offer, it's a tough thing to fight. This is why some experts recommend you NEVER take an offer to be bumped, because the airlines frequently lie, or pull things like Air Canada did, agreeing that they did indeed offer $800 but because he got a seat on an earlier flight (which he denies and can prove was not the case), 15% is all they owe him. Eventually, the airline relented, but why they did what they did is perplexing unless you realize that competition on most routes is limited and customer service is not a priority. (CBC)
