Good intentions are one thing, but business is business, and so the very last Panera Bread pay-what-you-can restaurant, aimed at helping the poor and homeless, is closing. The chain opened several of the pay-what-you-can locations since 2010, but one by one, they closed, and the company says it was no longer viable to keep them open. Nice try, but when people can pay you less than it costs you to make the product and keep the doors open, that's not going to last for long. (Boston Globe)
