This is an interesting story for a couple of reasons: First, health problems like obesity and diabetes in one area of Tennessee are being blamed not just on sodas in general but on a specific soda, Sun Drop, and it's because, second, in that area, Sun Drop is by far the biggest soda there is. It's like how, back in the day, much of the South preferred Cheerwine over Coke, and in the Lehigh Valley, you found A-Treat sodas everywhere and not so much the big national brands. Sun Drop is owned by Keurig Dr. Pepper, but it's primarily available in Middle Tennessee and is marketed as being special to the region. But it's an area with high unemployment, low education, and high uninsured rates, so breaking the cycle and getting people weaned off the stuff is proving difficult. (WPLN/Nashville)
