Wasn't A Problem When Everyone Wore Snazzy Fedoras At All Times

New York City is banning hairstyle discrimination, and while you might think that hairstyles aren't much of an issue anymore -- at least, I would hope that you're used to people with dreads and mohawks and whatever other styles -- some businesses do discriminate, some employers won't hire people whose hair is different, and some of those "different" hairstyles have cultural or religious significance. On the other hand, there's never been a precedent for hairstyle as a protected class, so the legal implications will be interesting to watch. And it doesn't ban rules for covering up on the job if that's appropriate, like in food preparation. (New York Times)
