Bet They Didn't Have A Gate Ready, Either

How weird is the weather? Okay, you can argue about climate change all you want, but the jet stream is going berserk, and it's so furious that a plane that got caught up in it -- the air was moving at over 230 mph, the fastest ever recorded over New York -- and hit a speed of 801 mph, 35,000 feet above Pennsylvania. Even with just a short ride on the jet stream, it arrived 48 minutes early. Wait, you say, 801 mph is faster than the speed of sound, so how did it do that? It's airspeed, not ground speed, which makes a difference and means that this flight didn't break the sound barrier. Regardless, things are crazy up there. (Washington Post)
