I Saw 'A Star Is Born' On Blu-ray, So It's Not A Movie Anymore?
-
What's a movie? In the wake of the Oscars, Steven Spielberg has been agitating to ban movies made for Netflix and other streamers from Oscar competition, claiming that unless a movie is in theaters, it's not a movie, it's a TV show. But the public thinks a movie's a movie whether you see it in a theater or on a DVD or Blu-ray or on streaming or HBO. And anyone who saw "Roma" would have to agree -- that was a movie, however you saw it. What's your position? (Interesting, too, that Spielberg would feel this way when his first fame came from directing "Duel," which was... wait for it... an ABC "Movie of the Week." Made for TV. Huh.) (Los Angeles Times)
