You might recall a story from a couple of years ago about a student who choked to death in a pancake-eating contest at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. Her family is suing the school for wrongful death, and the school's defense is that her death was not its fault, that she assumed the risk and was responsible for her own death. Which raises the question of how much someone is at fault for stunts and contests that go wrong and how much duty the operator or sponsor of the event has to ensure safety.
