Everybody's Gotta Work Someplace
-
There's a truck driver shortage. How are long-haul trucking companies filling the gap? With felons. Trucking is a lifeline for people whose backgrounds are checkered. They need the work and are willing to pay to be trained to do it; the companies need drivers. And the money's pretty good. But if your record is for murder or sex crimes, you're probably not going to get a job. And if your felonies are recent, you'll have to wait a few years before they'll hire you. Whatever the case, studies show that giving those with prison records jobs cuts recidivism a lot. (Long Beach Press Telegram)
