If God Intended Us To Exercise In Old Age, Would He Have Invented Recliners?
-
It's an interesting way to look at things: This BBC article contends that exercise doesn't really reverse the aging process but, rather, if you exercise and remain active as you enter your senior years, you're as you're supposed to be. In other words, you're SUPPOSED to be healthy and active as you get older, not sedentary and rapidly declining. The contention is that we -- I assume we're all humans here -- were hunter/gatherers, and the human body was designed to be physically active, so if you're not, you're actually probably appearing older than you should, rather than the other way around, in which active seniors are celebrated for looking and acting younger than they should. Not sure it matters, though, since the bottom line is the same: You should exercise and remain active, whether it means you're "younger than you seem" or "the way you're supposed to be." (BBC)
