Here's a deep dive into why we procrastinate, and according to one prominent study, it's because we're in a bad mood. No, really. It's not anything particularly special to certain people, it's triggered by negative moods -- boredom, insecurity, frustration, that kind of thing. You look at a task, worry you might not be up to it, get upset, and just put it aside "for now." Which makes us ultimately feel worse, but we're hard-wired to prioritize the present over the future ("we'll cross that bridge when we come to it"). How to break through? Find a better reward for doing the task than for putting it off. There are other ways to do it, but that's the main one. So, are you a.... no, you ARE a procrastinator. We all are.
