Never Get Between Anybody And Their Free Stuff
-
Hell hath no fury like the upset frequent traveler, or, more specifically, the frequent traveller addicted to points and miles and loyalty clubs. Yes, we're talking about frequent flyer/hotel points, and it's about that new Marriott Bonvoy you may have seen on TV ads lately. It's the result of the merger of Marriott and Starwood and the subsequent merger of their loyalty programs (and the Ritz-Carlton rewards program), and some of the folks who joined up in the past are not happy with the new program, complaining that they've been shut out of free nights and upgrades they'd earned under the old plans. They're posting their complaints on message boards and social media with the hashtag #bonvoyed. I understand the frustration -- I'm in several programs and when there's a problem getting benefits or points or transfers, it IS a pain -- but it really is a First World Problem. How long would you give a company to work out the kinks of a merger before you'd go online to complain about it? (Los Angeles Times)
